This was the cover that almost wasn't! When I first submitted the sketch for this cover, it was rejected. Fortunately, the sketch was championed by Archie president and managing editor Mike Pellerito who pushed for it to be accepted until finally a year after I had first drawn the initial sketch, it was finally given the go-ahead. I like that it not only features four out of the five key Archie players (Reggie being the fifth) but it also hints as to the relationships involved...and without using even a single word balloon!
